tis truly a disaster of cataclysmic proportion! I have been watching Eurosport since it started (about 20 years ago?), it went bust and off the air for a while, at one time, but bounced back. I have seen Paris dakar, macau, le mans, nascar (daytona live),World Superbikes, ducados spanish championship racing live and german superbike series live, to name but a few, and all completely FREE! the commentary has been superb, with Julian Ryder and Keith Huewen memorable, Dennis Noyes and randy Mamola fantastic, Chris Carter featuring, and even John Mcguiness last weekend! One comfort is that ' a deal has been struck with a free to air german channel', so i guess i can hang on to my old analogue dish and box for a bit longer!

Well thats a major disaster for me!!
I have taped and kept, every Moto GP practice, qualifiying and races for all three class's on SKY and Eurosport since 1992.If it was transmited,i recorded it.I have over 700 tapes/DVDs (including WSB).
IF (a big if) the BBC transmit the practices at all, they will do it on the interactive service, which will be nigh on impossible to set timers for to record them.
Thats pis*d on my chips!!

Hold on a 'mo lad's before we get all upset.
First think of the EXCELLENT coverage by the BBC of the NW200, they may be able to influence the MotoGP coverage too.
Second if they transmit the practice via the "i" button you can record it (and edit it) using a stand alone DVD/HDD recorder, I just bought one off ebay for £34 and have now freed up space on my Sky plus box. This has allowed me to transfer all my bike stuff from 2007 and 2008 to DVD
Thirdly NO ADVERTS! We tend to watch on BBC now anyway 'cos breaks for adverts wreck the Eurosport coverage.
The coverage of the TT on BBC NI this year had no interruptions for adverts, much better than the channel 4 offerings.
Lets see what develops re. bikes on the beeb. I hope they get the job for RadioTT next year too.
Pete.

That depends.............
I can put the skybox (or a set top freeview box) on interactive and put the recorder on timer then go out.
Or, I can put the box on "i" press record and go out (for 96 hours) and then search till I find it.
Plus, the timer feature on Eurosport is just too iffy due to live broadcasts over running. How many times has the end of a programme been missed. I tend to record both the bike event AND whatever is on after it in case they overrun the previous event to the bikes.
You have to pay for the minimum package on Sky if you want Eurosport. The BBC comes from your license fee.
I'm sure it will be on iplayer too.

Back to the good old BBC days of the 1980s...
"...Sheene has pulled alongside Roberts, the fairings are almost touching, the corner is approaching fast, it's"
CLICK
"...And Botham walks slowly back to the crease...."
Happy times.

Yeah and do you know how many times the coverage has been followed immediately by women's beach volleyball?!!!
My explanation to Herself that I'm only recording it in case the bike racing over-runs cuts no ice at all!
Edd.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own. I resign.

The BBC does have three channels now so we can only hope at least one of them will be dedicated to the bikes.
I also hope the Beeb can persuade Moody, Mamola and Ryder to bring their talents with them. I'd rather hear some inside information direct from enthusiastic, knowledgable commentators rather than the usual patronising 'ooh they are so powerful', and all that 'power through a contact patch the size of your hand', and 'soft tyres are like chewing gum' bull. Yawn.
I appreciate the Beeb trying to bring the sport to a wider audience but I'm sure people will find the sport far more interesting once they are aware of the psychology, politics, science and technology involved. That is what makes MotoGP fascinating. It's a soap opera.
People need to be aware there is more to it than just a bunch of pretty bikes going round in circles using up their tyres and fuel.
