TT star back on form
John McGuinness, the 11-times winner at the Isle of Man TT, has put his racing season firmly back on track with strong display in the British Supersport Championship.
McGuinness, of Morecambe, finished sixth at the third round of the championship at Silverstone – the second time this season he has finished in that position.
The successful outing has allowed McGuinness to put the disappointment of failing to finish at the second round, held at Thruxton, behind him as he prepares for the Centenary TT.
On Sunday, riding the Padgett's Honda, McGuinness was strong throughout practice and qualifying before scoring his sixth place on race day. The result moves him back inside the top ten of the championship, now occupying ninth in the table.
He had diced for fifth place with, among others, another TT favourite – Ian Hutchinson
McGuinness said:
’That's more like it! After the huge disappointment of Thruxton, it is good to get ourselves back in the hunt and, although you always want to be first, we got a decent result and bagged some solid points.
‘We've shown what we can do as a team and it bodes well for the up and coming races. It's an important time of the year for me with both the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT taking place in the next six weeks so results like this go a long way to boosting the confidence.’
