McGuinness fired up for TT

John McGuinness - widely regarded as the man to beat at the Isle of Man TT - says he is in 'great shape' for the Centenary meeting.

The Morecambe rider, who has claimed 11 wins around the Mountain Circuit and holds the outright lap record, claimed a Superbike win, two second places and two fourth places at the North West 200 on Saturday.

The 35-year-old said he felt strong enough to have scored further success and believes his showing at the Triangle shows he is ready for the TT, which starts on May 26.

 McGuinness said:

I've had a good day and the team are happy, so it's been great preparation for the TT, and we know that we're in great shape heading to the Island.'

Meanwhile, TT veteran Ian Lougher has put a disappointing North West behind him to focus on the Centenary TT.

The Welshman, who rode the Team Black Horse Hondas in the Supersport and Superstock events and contested the Superbike on the Stobart Motorsports’ Honda, managed two fifths, two sixths and a ninth place.

Ian Lougher at the North West (Alan Armstrong)He said:

‘Initially I was disappointed with my performance and the results I achieved on race day, having graced the rostrum many times before, but with the dust now settled, and having had time to study the timesheets properly and watched the race coverage on TV, I feel more up beat.’
‘I somehow seemed to lose out following the various red flag incidents, and my finishing positions neither tell the story of the race nor reflect the fierceness of the competition.’
‘Certainly conditions couldn't have been better for my first pure road race of the year, and we have again moved forward with set-up on all the bikes and am very much looking forward to heading to the Isle of Man for the Centenary TT next week.’

Lougher was also pleased with the progress of Team Black Horse teammate Jimmy Moore, who will make his TT debut this year. Moore steadily improved during the North West meeting – his first pure road race event – and managed a 12th place in the second Supersport race.

Lougher added:

‘He has gone extremely well, working very professionally with our team mechanics and has been a pleasure to have in the team.’
