Police are out in force (Isle of Man Newspapers)

The police are urging road users to take extra care as the volume of traffic on Isle of Man roads increases.

With the Centenary of the TT Races in full swing, tens of thousands of visitors, many riding motorcycles, have travelled to the Island. They are joining the Isle of Man’s normal traffic, making the roads busier than ever.

Inspector Derek Flint, head of the Isle of Man Constabulary’s roads policing unit, said:

‘We are now into the most intense period of road activity the Island has seen for many years.’
‘We have been pleased with the overall standards of driving and riding, especially on the roads forming the TT Course. However, there have been notable exceptions where failure to adhere to the “Take it Easy” message, has resulted in significant, and life-changing injuries.’
‘However experienced a rider or driver you may be, you will be driving in traffic conditions you are unlikely to have experienced before. If you can avoid a journey, then it would be my advice to do so. That said, daily life goes on, so plan your journey well, with plenty of time, lots of care and attention, and a degree of courtesy and tolerance of your fellow motorist.’

He added:

‘Finally, adherence to the speed limits in the towns and villages is imperative. We have a number of speed enforcement teams out, and compliance will be rigorously enforced.’
‘Please don’t ignore them.’
