Guy Martin on the Podium after Superbike TT

Kirmington's Guy Martin got his Centenary TT campaign off to an excellent start when he finished second in the opening Superbike race.

Although he finished runner-up to John McGuinness, Martin was one of the stars of the race.

He said:

'You always want to win when you take to the line and although I wasn't able to do that today, I gave it my very best shot and fair play to John for riding a great race. I knew the first lap was going to be crucial, but I was a little bit cautious and didn't do quite as good a job as I could.'
'I spent a little bit too much time behind Ian Lougher just keeping an eye on what he was doing, but I should have steamed past him straightaway. I lost a bit of time there and at the pit stops but it's the first time at the TT for the Hydrex Honda team and the lads did a damn good job.'
'The bike was awesome and it never missed a beat whilst we had the best tyres in the business so all in all, I can't be too disappointed. I promised myself I wouldn't be a miserable bugger if I didn't win and second is a good result to get things underway. We've learnt a lot today and it will stand us in good stead for the remainder of the week.'
'There's three more races to go which means three more opportunities to win and I've come here to get at least one so I can guarantee I'll be giving it 100 per cent in each one.'
