Fundraiser for injured Harris

Shaun Harris at the start of the Superstock TT

Funds will be raised for injured TT winner Shaun Harris and his family at a special event on Thursday.

It is the first of what could become a series of events to raise cash for the Kiwi, who suffered extensive injuries in a racing crash during the Centenary TT.

He came off at Union Mills during the Superstock TT. He suffered leg, arm, vertebra, rib and pelvic fractures.

Shaun remains in Noble’s Hospital in the Isle of Man, and is due to be transferred to a UK hospital for further treatment.

Members of his family travelled to the Isle of Man from New Zealand to be with Shaun.

The event at the marquee at the Sulby Glen Hotel will start at 8pm. It will include a TT quiz, raffles, auctions, discounted Dunlop Draught beer and a barbecue.

There will also be a presentation of a cheque for £1,000 to the Manx Grand Prix Supporters Club in memory of road racing stalwart Gwen Crellin on the eve of what would have been her 90th birthday.

Meanwhile, a fund has been set up to raise money for Shaun and his family in New Zealand.

Motorcycling New Zealand chief executive officer Paul Pavletich said:

‘We have had a number of friends and members offering their support to assist his family meet all the unexpected costs that will arise.’
‘If you would like to assist you can send your donation to Motorcycling New Zealand or deposit into our Rider Welfare Fund.’
‘Lets do all we can to help Shaun and his family.’

Donations can be made to the Motorcycling New Zealand - Rider Welfare Fund account, account number 06 0329 0008518 12, at the National Bank. The swift code, ANZBNZ22, is needed for international transfers.
