Popular TV presenters and dedicated motorcycle fans The Hairy Bikers are set to support a charity in memory of TT legend Joey Dunlop.
Simon King and David Myers will attend Monday’s special event arranged by the Joey Dunlop Foundation.
Plus it has been revealed the helmets worn by sidecar stars Nick Crowe and Dan Sayle during the Centenary TT will be among the lots in an auction on the night.
Foundation chairman Kevin Quirk said the TV cooks are ardent Joey fans and are flying in especially to attend the foundation’s annual dinner at the Hilton Hotel, Douglas, which will also feature several Manx Grand Prix winners.
Other guests expected to attend include Alan Holmes, Martin Finnegan, Selwyn Griffiths, Richard Quayle, Nigel Beattie, Samuel Dunlop, Jim Dunlop and more.
Comperes for the evening will be Manx Radio’s Tim Glover and Chris Kinley, well known to TT and MGP fans.
There will also be an auction for lots including a James Whitham helmet, Tom Sheard book and clock, one of only 16 ever made, limited edition stamps, a Southern 100 book signed by a host of TT riders and stars, a signed shirt and much more.
The Crowe and Sayle TT helmets are likely to attract a lot of interest, but if the reserve price isn’t met on Monday the helmets will be auctioned again on December 1, at sidecar star Klaus Klaffenbock’s Christmas party, which Rob Fisher has confirmed he will be attending.
The Joey Dunlop Foundation was founded in memory of the 26-times TT-winner, who lost his life in a crash in Estonia in 2000. Joey was a tireless charity worker, although he tried to keep his selfless work quiet.
The foundation has ambitious plans to develop accommodation in Victoria Road, Douglas, not far from the TT Grandstand, to cater for visitors to the Island with disabilities. It will be named in honour of Joey.
Si and Dave are no strangers to the Isle of Man, having previously filmed here for their BBC TV series and to enjoy the racing.
Kevin said anyone who would like tickets for the annual dinner, or information about Klaffi’s Christmas party, should contact him on 677606 or Suzanne on 612049
