TT
Another section of the TT Course looks set for a makeover.
Already Windy Corner and Brandish on the Mountain section have been remodelled, and work is under way to create two roundabouts on either side of Braddan Bridge.
The approach to Governor’s Bridge is next for some changes, according to the Isle of Man Government’s Department of Transport.
This week the Island’s parliament, Tynwald, will be asked to approve the cash for the scheme. If agreement is given, work could start in early November and be complete ahead of TT 2008.
The DoT intends to create a new 7.3 metre-wide road to run alongside the section of TT course from The Nook to Governor’s Bridge, part of the final run to the start/finish line after Signpost Corner.
The department believes the existing section isn’t wide enough to cope with traffic, the stopping sight distance for bends and on the approach to the mini-roundabout at Governor’s Bridge isn’t sufficient and the mini-roundabout cannot cope with current volumes of traffic at peak times.
As well as creating a new carriageway, a conventional roundabout will be created in place of the mini-roundabout at Governor’s Bridge.
Initially the DoT said the work may not mean a change for the TT. The existing section could be preserved for the races, Schemes Manager Jim Davidson said when the work was announced.
However, it has been reported in the Island that the Auto-Cycle Union wants to move the racing to the new road because it will be safer. Mr Davidson told iomtoday.co.im the old section would be grassed over.
