New team for Manxman Conor

Conor Cummins prepares to start the Superbike race at the Centenary TT. He will be with a new team for the 2008 event.

Manxman Conor Cummins, one of the stars of the Centenary TT, has signed for NCT Racing.

The 21-year-old will contest the Superstock class of the British Superbike Championship in 2008 on the NCT Racing Yamaha R1s.

Conor, of Ramsey, will also be able to build on his amazing 2007 road racing success. In his first full season on the roads, Conor produced some amazing results and claimed the prestigious Duke Road Race Rankings title after a closely fought battle with Guy Martin and other leading riders.

Racing with JMF Millsport Racing Yamaha he became the fastest Manxman ever around the TT course, and marked himself out as one of the most promising TT riders of the future with a fifth, two sixth-placed finishes and an eighth.

He also claimed the 600 and superbike Irish road racing titles.

In 2008, Conor will return to the TT, as well as racing at the North West 200, Southern 100 and Ulster Grand Prix. He will be riding NCT Racing’s brand new Yamaha Superbike and Supersport machines, as well as the NCT BSB Superstock bike.

‘The team is very excited at the prospect of working with Conor. We had a test at Donington Park a few weeks ago, for Conor to meet the team and to work with Richard from Maxton suspension on set up. It was obvious from the start of the day that everything was gelling immediately.’
‘Although it was rather cold on the day, with scattered rainshowers and a stiff breeze, Conor performed admirably. He clocked really good lap times.’
‘We came away from Donington, feeling that the testing was very successful, for all concerned.’
‘With Conor now onboard with NCT, joining our Superstock 600 signing David Haire, we feel that NCT will be in a very strong position to challenge for top honours in 2008, both on the roads and on the short circuits.’
