John McGuinness in the TT marshals campaign

Visitors to the NEC Motorcycle and Scooter Show in Birmingham are being invited to sign on as marshals for the Isle of Man TT.

Leaflets explaining what is involved in being a marshal are being handed out from the dedicated Isle of Man TT desk, which is on the Duke stand (2H50) near the Black Horse Stage.

It is hoped visitors to the show who intend to visit the TT in 2008 will accept the invitation to become part of the racing and join the army of orange-clad marshals.

The campaign is fronted by 13-times TT winner John McGuinness, who found out for himself what being a marshal involves during the Manx Grand Prix.

He said:

‘Signing on as a marshal at the MGP was a real eye-opener. The marshals do an amazing job, something massively appreciated by us riders.’
‘It was weird being on the other side of the fence, and now I only appreciate them more! If you have a passion for these races. Why not join me and become a marshal?’

The Isle of Man TT Marshals Association boasts more than 1,200 dedicated volunteers, but is always keen to welcome more.

Anyone aged between 16 and 70 who is able-bodied can join, and you don’t necessarily need experience.

Marshals don’t need to be Isle of Man residents, and you don’t have to marshal every single session.

Popular racer Guy Martin, who scored three podium finishes out of four starts during the Centenary TT, added his support.

He said:

‘The marshals at the TT do a mint job! I can’t praise them highly enough.’
