Some former TT competitors will be eligible to ride in select Manx Grand Prix races next year, the organisers have confirmed.
The rules have been relaxed for the 2008 running of the MGP, which uses the same Mountain Circuit as the TT.
Previously, anyone who had competed in the TT was barred from entering an MGP event, apart from the Classic races. It was also expected those who had won an MGP would move on to the TT.
However, the Manx Motor Cycle Club has announced previous winners of Newcomers, Classic, Lightweight and Ultra Lightweight MGP Races, and riders who have previously competed in the TT races, will be eligible to enter the Lightweight and Ultra Lightweight Races in 2008.
There are conditions. Riders will only be eligible provided they have not qualified to start in any TT solo race on the TT Mountain Course in the last three years and have not won a silver replica in any TT solo race on the TT Mountain Course in the last six years.
A statement from the MMCC added:
‘Riders who have qualified to start in any round of any road racing world championship will not be eligible for any MGP race except for the Classic races. Previous winners of Junior and Senior MGP races will not be eligible.’
‘Previous winners of Newcomers, Classic, Lightweight and Ultra Lightweight will be eligible to enter the Junior and Senior Manx Grand Prix Races in 2008.’
The MMCC also announced the Ultra Lightweight Race and Newcomers C class in 2008 will include 4 stroke 2 cylinder machines up to 650cc in addition to the 125cc and 400cc machines that have been eligible in the past.
Riders otherwise eligible for the MGP will not be excluded for having competed in the TT Races to be held on the Billown Circuit in the south of the Island in 2008.
Subject to ACU approval, the 2008 Regulations will be available at the end of January, the MMCC said.
