Are you stuck for a Christmas present for the road racing fan in your life – or even for yourself!
Then the Official book of the Centenary Isle of Man TT Races could be just what you’re looking for.
The 2007 TT, sponsored by Bennetts, had it all – glorious racing, including a new outright lap record in the Senior, lots of drama, heartache, nostalgia and pageantry.
The official review book, from Haynes, has the full story of the entire event, a thrilling mix of action, opinion, all the race reports, stunning photography, plus clearly-presented statistics and graphics.
And the book, officially licensed by the Department of Tourism and Leisure (a Department of the Isle of Man Government).there’s more from the incredible atmosphere that made the Centenary TT such a blockbuster.
John McGuinness lived up to the pre-event hype with his astounding new lap record of 130.354mph. Riders will tell you it is only winning races that counts, but years from now people will still talk about that 130mph-plus lap in the Senior TT, sponsored by PokerStars, the same way people still talk about Bob McIntyre’s first-ever 100mph lap in 1957.
But McGuinness didn’t just do an incredibly fast lap, he also won both the big bike races – the Superbike TT and Senior – to take his total number of victories to 13, and was a major player in the other events.
Predictably, Bruce Anstey won the Superstock TT and might have taken the Supersport TT too, had it not been for all the drama in the pit lane after his routine refuelling stop.
It opened the way for Yorkshire’s Ian Hutchinson to win his first ever TT, a well-deserved victory after the heartache of 2006.
And the Bavaria Beer Sidecar races could not have been more action-packed too. Nick Crowe and Dan Sayle set a record pace, only to break down, leaving Dave Molyneux and Rick Long to score success in the events
Moly took both victories, taking his tally to a frankly amazing 13 TT wins.
The official TT book, edited by MCN’s Gary Pinchin, is not just about the TT races and comprehensive race results and times. It is a celebration of the entire Centenary TT, the 1907 re-enactment on the original St John’s course, the fantastic parade laps, the two big race meetings on the Billown course, plus all the celebrations and atmosphere.
It is the definitive record of the event and a must-have for all motorcycle racing fans.
The full colour, 208-page hardback book, with more than 250 colour photos, is on sale now for £19.99.
The official TT review book has an excellent pedigree. Editor Gary Pinchin is a reporter for MCN and has covered British Superbike and the TT for many years.
Other major contributors include Mac McDiarmid, Dave Fern, Steve Burns and John Watterson, plus photography by Stephen Davison and Double Red. There’s also a foreword from McGuinness.
