TT stars up for sports award

TT legend Dave Molyneux has been nominated for a prestigious award in the Isle of Man.

Moly, who claimed his 12th and 13th TT wins at the Centenary event last year, has been unveiled as one of seven finalists for the accolade Sportsman of the Year.

Ramsey man Conor Cummins, who enjoyed a successful TT on his way to claiming the Duke Road Race Rankings title in 2007, has been nominated in the same category.

The pair will face stiff competition for the title as 2007 was a successful year for Manx sport.

Moly and Conor line up alongside cycling stars Mark Cavendish, Jonny Bellis and Peter Kennaugh, Enduro king David Knight and racing driver Alex Lloyd.

The last two dominated the US-based GNCC and Indy Pro Series championships respectively.

The nominations were announced on Thursday lunchtime.

As well as candidates for Sportsman of the Year, hopefuls for a further eight titles, including Sportswoman of the Year, Isle of Man Ambassador, Team of the Year and Coach of the Year, were revealed.

The winners will be announced at the Sports Awards evening, to be held at the Villa Marina, Douglas, Isle of Man, on March 20.

Guest of honour will be motorsport legend and former Isle of Man resident Nigel Mansell.
