Isle of Man TT winner Richard ‘Milky’ Quayle took on a very different challenge on a runway at Nottingham East Midlands Airport.

Milky, who quit racing in 2003, rode alongside a Manx2.com Metroliner aircraft as a new air link between the Isle of Man and the East Midlands was launched on Monday.

He was on the NCT Van Fit Yamaha fellow Manxman Conor Cummins will ride this season.

Since quitting his successful racing career, Milky has used his knowledge and skills to help up and coming competitors as a Rider Liaison Officer with the Isle of Man Government’s Department of Tourism and Leisure.

Manx2.com communications director James Filleul said:

‘We must thank Richard, the Department of Tourism and Leisure and the whole TT team for their support, it was the perfect way to launch our new route.’
‘Nottingham East Midlands airport is in an excellent location for Manx customers, and with low fares and frequent flights, we think this is going to be a very successful route.

East Midlands Airport director of marketing and communications Caroline Plant believes the link will be well used during the TT in 2008.

She said:

‘We are anticipating a huge demand for the Isle of Man, especially around the Island’s major sporting event in May.’
‘The launch of this new service will provide motorsport fans and holidaymakers from the region with a convenient daily service.’
