Marshal numbers looking good for 2008 TT

John McGuinness supports the TT marshal recruitment drive

More than 360 people have returned registration forms to become marshals at the 2008 Isle of Man TT races.

It is a fantastic response given the forms were only sent out last week!

Isle of man TT Marshals Association chairman Bill Carden said:

‘These figures are in line with previous year’s numbers at the same time of year, so, contrary to the ill-informed doom merchants, people are still showing their interest in marshalling.’
‘However we can always do with more so if anyone fancies joining the “Orange Army” they should get in touch.’

A record number of people have gone through Incident Management Courses this year. The courses are now available in many parts of the UK as well as in the Isle of Man.

Mr Carden added:

‘The courses are proving really popular and we’ve just added our first course in Scotland due to popular demand.’

The TTMA has worked closely with the Isle of Man Constabulary to establish operational guidelines for marshals working in the Isle of Man.

Superintendent Carolyn Kinrade said:

‘Marshals will have clearly defined responsibilities and a recorded check list to make sure that everything required has been completed.’
‘We believe that this will make it easier for the marshals to carry out the role required.’

Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw, who is chairman of the TT Organising Committee, added:

‘The TT Marshals are the lifeblood of the races and without them it wouldn’t take place.’
‘I’d like to personally thank them for their hard work throughout the year. I’ve already sent my form in for Brandish Corner.’
