Whitesnake to headline entertainment at 2009 Isle of Man TT
Rock legends Whitesnake will headline an eclectic line-up of entertainment at the 2009 Isle of Man TT.
The Villa Marina Gardens in Douglas will be the venue for a series of performances throughout the fortnight, with temporary stage playing host to top musical entertainment, leading TT riders and the always popular TT chat show and prize presentations.
On Tuesday, June 9th, Whitesnake will rock the Villa Marina. The group, one of the world’s leading rock bands, has scored numerous hits on both sides if the Atlantic, including the Number 1 single Here I Go Again, and Is This Love, which reached Number 2 in the US. Other hits include Give Me All Your Love and Fool for Your Loving.
The TT festival at the Gardens kicks off on Friday, June 5th, with a performance by U2 UK, Europe’s premier tribute show to the Irish rock legends U2. It takes in the early years of U2 and runs right up to the Vertigo tour.
On Saturday, June 6th, The Fabulous Thunderbirds will take to the stage. For more than 30 years the group has been the quintessential American band, with a distinctive and powerful sound influenced by a diversity of musical styles. The Fabulous Thunderbirds have brought us such barnburners as Tuff Enuff and Wrap It Up. Co-founder Kim Wilson, the sole original member, still spearheads the group as it evolves into its newest incarnation.
One of the more unusual acts to appear at TT 2009 will undoubtedly be The Red Hot Chilli Pipers, performing on Sunday, June 7th. The band originally found fame as winner of the BBC One show When Will I Be Famous, but have gone on to take the unique brand of ‘Jock and Roll’ and ‘Bagrock’ all over the world, appearing at the biggest of events and festivals from the USA to China.
The Red Hot Chilli Pipers have also featured on The Darkness album One Way Ticket to Hell and Back and on the soundtrack to the film Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.
Route 66 will grace the stage on Monday, June 8th, entertaining fans with a medley of iconic tracks from a ‘who’s who’ of rock music, including instantly recognisable anthems from Bon Jovi, Meatloaf, Tina Turner, Cher, Elvis Presley and many more.
Tourism and Leisure Minister Martyn Quayle said:
‘We have picked a line-up that hopefully offers something for everyone. We also want to make the entertainment as affordable as possible and so that everyone is able to enjoy the concerts at the Villa Marina.’
In addition to the live entertainment in the Villa Marina Gardens, the Gaiety Theatre will host the extremely popular Eagles tribute Talon on Thursday, June 4th.
Plus, on Thursday, June 11th, the Royal Hall of the Villa Marina will host the TTXGP concert, featuring the 72 piece London Metropolitan Orchestra (LMO), sponsored by Aer Arann.
The concert features a world premier symphony specially commissioned for TTXGP. This symphonic pop/rock concert, which will feature the largest symphony orchestra seen on stage at the Villa Marina, will be a themed celebration of future technology and TT heritage. The programme comprises contemporary film and chart music and works by composers as diverse as John Williams, Michael Kamen, Stravinsky, Debussy, Prince, Queen, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Rob Doughan.
