Murray Walker and MotoGP winner Bradley Smith to attend 2009 Isle of Man TT
Bradley Smith and Murray Walker are the latest stars to confirm they will attend the 2009 Isle of Man TT.
Hot on the heels of his first 125cc victory in Spain, Oxfordshire-based racer Smith has announced he will be at the TT, meaning Valentino Rossi will not be the only MotoGP winner in the Isle of Man during the festival!
Smith, who lies second overall in the 125cc championship after three races, said he will visit the Isle of Man with dad Allan for the Dainese Superbike race on Saturday, June 6.
He will present prizes at the end of the race.
Smith said:
‘I’ve always been aware of the TT races from an early age and my dad has frequently talked about the Island’s heritage so I’m really looking forward to watching the event live.’
‘I have a huge amount of respect for the road racers and what they do.’
Also confirming he will attend is legendary motorsport commentator Murray Walker OBE, whose father Graham was a TT regular and won the 1931 Lightweight. Murray – famed for his commentary on Formula One coverage, will watch the Pokerstars Senior TT on June 12, and present the awards afterwards.
Murray, who first commentated on the TT for the BBC in 1949, famously said last year that he felt that the TT was ‘the greatest motorsport event in the world’. He also curated the Getty Images Exhibition 100 Years on the Roads.
The Department of Tourism and Leisure has confirmed there are still some hospitality tickets available to purchase for the TT VIP club, which will be visited by Smith, Walker and eight-time MotoGP Champion Rossi during race week.
These tickets will give exclusive access to the races and behind-the-scenes action. The packages, which cost £218+VAT per guest, offer all-day access to the Hospitality Suite as well as reserved Grandstand seating, access to the TT paddock, exclusive rider appearances, breakfast, lunch, all day refreshments and a gift pack containing official merchandise.
Tourism and Leisure Minister Martyn Quayle said:
‘I’m delighted to welcome these two great names to the TT races this year.’
‘Bradley Smith continues to make his name, whilst Murray Walker is synonymous with motorsport and it’s really fantastic to be able to welcome him back to the Island.’
