Hectic weekend for TT star Steve Plater
TT winner Steve Plater endured a busy weekend as he combined his British Supersport Championship duties with preparing for the 2009 Isle of Man TT.
After securing second place in Sunday’s supersport race at Thruxton, Plater rushed back to the Isle of Man and managed to get a decent night’s sleep before Monday evening’s first timed practice session of this year’s TT.
The Woodhall Spa rider did two laps of the famous Mountain course on the HM Plant Honda Supersport bike, posting a fastest time of 18m38.67s, at average lap speed of 121.419mph. The time was good enough for fifth overall on the Supersport leaderboard.
Plater then switched to his HM Plant Honda Superbike for another two laps, his fastest at 18m14.54s, an average speed of 124.096mph. The speed put him seventh overall on the Superbike leaderboard.
Plater said:
‘The sun was a bit of a nuisance again tonight as it was really low in the sky and in my eyes, but the flies were not so bad.’
‘We didn’t find any issues with the bikes, but still have a few adjustments to make before the next practice. But of course that’s what practice is for, to iron out any problems that occur and also to re-familiarise myself with the course.’
He added:
‘Its 37.73 miles around and it takes a bit of learning. The memory needs a bit of refreshing as I am still a little bit lost in a few places. But a few more laps on Tuesday should sort that out.’
