The Fabulous Thunderbirds

The bad weather which led to the cancellation of the first day of racing at the 2009 Isle of Man TT has also hit entertainment planned for this evening.

Music legends the Fabulous Thunderbirds were due to perform in the gardens of the Villa Marina in Douglas, but owing to the wet weather, the Department of Tourism and Leisure has switched the venue to the Royal Hall inside the Villa.

The concert will start at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 6.30pm.

Admission will be free on a first-come, first-served basis. Anyone who has already bought a ticket will be able to exchange it for £15-worth of drinks vouchers at the villa Marina or neighbouring Gaiety Theatre.

With the decision to postpone the Dainese Superbike TT and first Sure Mobile race until Monday instead of Sunday, it has been decided to make entrance to the Wildlife Park in Ballaugh free tomorrow. Entry is also free for the rest of today (Saturday).

In addition, the National Sports Centre in Douglas is offering free showers, saunas and a place to dry out until 7pm today – but bring your own towel please!

A spokesman for the Department of Tourism and Leisure said:

‘There are a range of entertainments on offer all over the Island, including the exhibition of Honda’s 50th anniversary of racing on the Isle of Man at the Manx Museum.’
‘The exhibition will be open and on Sunday from 2-5pm.’
