Ian Hutchinson has moved to the top of the 2009 Isle of Man TT points championship after his tremendous double victory on Tuesday.
The Yorkshireman won both the Relentless Supersport Race 1 and the Royal London 360 Superstock TT to claim the maximum 50 points on offer. Added to the 13 points he secured in Monday’s Dainese Superbike TT Hutchinson now has 63 points, seven ahead of Hydrex Honda’s Guy Martin.
Martin added 40 points for two second place finishes to his 16 points from the Superbike race to secure second in the standings with 56 points.
Third is John McGuinness, who won his 15th TT with victory in the Superbike race, as well as setting a new outright lap record. He added two 11 point finishes on Tuesday to his maximum 25 point haul on Monday to gain 47 points. He is only one point ahead of HM Plant Honda teammate Steve Plater, who lies fourth with 46.
Scot Keith Amor, who didn’t score on Monday, has rocketed up to fifth with two podium finishes on Tuesday, worth a total of 32 points.
With the second Relentless Supersport race and Pokerstars Senior TT still to come on the Mountain course, there is still everything to race for – the top 10 are split by just 49 points, with 25 on offer for a race win.
