Father and son to support injured sidecar aces
A father and son team will take on the Great North Run to help two injured TT stars.
Mike Stanton, who is Isle of Man Country Manager for mobile phone firm Sure, will be joined by 19-year-old son Will for the event in Gateshead on September 20th.
The money the pair raise will go towards helping sidecar aces Nick Crowe and Mark Cox. The pair face a long road to recovery following a crash in the second Sidecar race during the 2009 TT.
Crowe and Cox, who are sponsored by Sure, crashed at Ballacob on lap one of the race and were airlifted from the scene to hospital. They both suffered extensive injuries are continuing to receive treatment in hospitals in the UK.
An experienced marathon runner, this is the first time Mike has run for charity.
He said:
‘The team here at Sure are devastated by the injuries suffered by Nick and Mark in TT Sidecar Race B, particularly so because they are sponsored by us and we know them both very well.’
‘It is going to be an incredibly long road to recovery for both of them. Their families will need a lot of support during this period, which is why myself and Will have decided to take part in the Great North Run this year to raise money for them.’
‘On behalf of everyone at Sure, I would like to take this opportunity to wish Nick and Mark the best of luck with their recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time.’
The BUPA Great North Run covers a distance of 13.1 miles. This year more than 52,000 people will take part.
