2010 Homestay Scheme to close next week

Isle of Man residents have until May 17th to register their property for the 2010 Homestay Scheme.

Isle of Man Tourism will be closing the registration process on Monday. Anyone interested in registering their property as accommodation for TT and Manx Grand Prix visitors must do so by then, or they will not be permitted to register until the scheme re-opens for 2011.

The Homestay Scheme, which has been operating for 19 years, helps meet the demand for tourist accommodation at some of the busiest times of the year.

Isle of Man Tourism Director Rod Nipper is encouraged by the response so far.

He said:

“The Homestay Scheme is closing imminently and I would like to thank the 463 homeowners who have so far registered their properties for tourist accommodation.”
“Without this scheme many of our visitors would be unable to holiday on the Island at peak times.”

Isle of Man Tourism stressed anyone who accepts paying guests into their home without being registered on the Homestay Scheme is committing an offence under the Tourist Act 1975. It is imperative that properties are registered so that visitors are guaranteed accommodation which is of a good quality standard and also conforms to fire regulations.
