Leading magazine names TT as one of 'the world's finest spectacles of speed'
A leading magazine has named the Isle of Man TT as one of the top 12 motorsport events in the world.
The British edition of GQ has ranked the TT alongside other prestigious events like the Monaco Grand Prix, Dakar Rally, the Le Mans 24 hour, the Indianapolis 500, Italy’s Mille Miglia and the Daytona 500 in its list of the greatest races.
The only other motorbike event to make the list is the Motogiro d’Italia, and the TT is the only event held in the British Isles to feature on the list.
The list of ‘the world’s finest spectacles of speed’ is featured in a motorsport supplement inside GQ’s May edition.
It describes the TT as the last ‘all-out motorcycle road race in the world’ and the Isle of Man as ‘the most talked about motorcycling venue on the planet.’
The magazine also praises 15-time TT winner John McGuinness, describing his 2009 lap record of 131.578 as ‘phenomenal.’
Isle of Man Tourism political member Geoff Corkish said:
“We are delighted that a publication as prestigious as GQ has selected the Isle of Man in its list of the top motorsport events.”
“It is particularly appropriate as the event is celebrating a 100 years of competition around the famous Mountain Course and continues to be recognised as being of huge relevance today.”
