Legendary motorsport commentator Murray Walker, whose father Graham competed in the TT from 1920 to 1934 and won the 1931 Lightweight class, will be taking part in the celebrations of the Mountain course's centenary at the 2011 Isle of Man TT fuelled by Monster Energy.
A collection of some of the most iconic machines that have contributed to TT history will be taking part in the ‘Milestones of the Mountain’ Parade Lap, a lap which will also pay tribute to some of the greatest riders and races. Murray will be commentating live on Radio TT as the motorcycles leave the line on Glencrutchery Road.
Murray first commentated on the TT for the BBC in 1949 and has described it as “the greatest motorsport event in the world”. He also curated the Getty Images exhibition “100 Years on the Roads”, which celebrated the Centenary of the TT. That exhibition is to be recreated at Castletown Town Hall and Civic Centre in the south of the Island.
Isle of Man Tourism political member Geoff Corkish said:
"We felt that it was really important to recognise the anniversary of the Mountain Course with an appropriate parade and day of celebrations and I am delighted that Murray Walker has accepted an invitation to attend. He has many friends in the Isle of Man and his attendance will add to the event’s prestige."
