The Superstock TT was another hard-fought race, with just one second separating the leading four riders half way round the opening lap. Never outside the top three, an opening speed of 127.545mph placed McGuinness in third, just three seconds off the pace-setting Michael Dunlop, and he maintained this position second time around, closing to within 2 seconds of second place man Guy Martin.

A super pitstop saw him overhaul his Suzuki rival and with a final lap of 128.614mph, he was able to come home in second place for his 31st TT podium.
McGuinness said:

“I've had two really enjoyable races and the Padgetts bikes are two of the best I've ever ridden.”

“The chassis on the 600 is excellent and it was one of my best rides in the Supersport class around here. When Keith caught me, I just glued myself to his back wheel and we had a lot of fun riding around together. I had no problems in the race and it's just a really good little package so I was thoroughly pleased with the end result, especially the 126mph+ lap, my best ever on a 600cc bike.”

“I did manage to hit two more birds though so the local wildlife is still getting in my way!”

He added:

“The Superstock was another great race and when Clive (Padgett) said to me on the line to give it some gas, that's exactly what I did! I didn't have the pace to run with Michael, he was riding really well so fair play to him, but you can't win them all and it's my 31st podium so I'm not complaining.”

“I've been competitive on both bikes and I've had three finishes from my three races so far and the week's going well.”

“I don't know what I've done wrong though as I hit another bird in the Superstock race and I've never hit so many during a TT fortnight, the Isle of Man wildlife community has really got it in for me this week!”

“Some of it started cooking on the exhaust and they say Hondas have wings but it was reality for me as there were bits of it everywhere!”

“We'll just look forward to the rest of the week now and hope for two more good, clean rides.”
Racing at the 2011 Isle of Man TT fuelled by Monster Energy is scheduled to continue on Wednesday with the second Monster Energy Supersport race and second Sure Sidecar TT.
