Isle of Man TT and Manx Grand Prix marshals battled through floods and fallen trees to attend the ‘simply sensational’ Sector 3 TT and MGP Marshals' Social Evening, organised by Chief Sector Marshal Dave Dentith.

Guests of honour at the Tynwald Inn, St John’s, on December 12, were TT racers Conor Cummins, Dave Molyneux and Dan Kneen. Apologies were received from Gary Thompson (Clerk of the Course), Nicky Crowe, Steve Parrish and His Excellency Adam Wood the Lieutenant Governor, all of whom were otherwise engaged on the evening.

The extreme weather conditions also prevented John Burrows, Michael Dunlop and Davy Morgan from travelling to attend.

The crowded Tynwald Inn quaked to the sound of struggling brains as nine teams contested the Annual Sector 3 Quiz. Great thinkers including Doc Stevens and The Hoggies and The Mike Hailwood Centre took part, but at the final analysis the clear winners were The Gorse Lea Marshals' Team of Phil Holland, Henry Bridson, Reg Berrie and John Foster.

The quiz trophies and the picture quiz rounds were sponsored by Absolute Scaffolding. The Mega-Raffle prizes, including photographs, T-shirts, motorcycle memorabilia and restaurant vouchers, were donated by Manx Gas, Dr. David Stevens, the Joey Dunlop Foundation, La Piazza, 14 North, Absolute Scaffolding, Dave Molyneux and Dan Kneen.

There was an auction of framed motorcycle prints donated by Shay O’Connell, three nights’ accommodation in the Waterfront Apartments on North Quay donated by Keith and Tracy Lord of Hesketh Investments, and a superb TT and MGP-themed Christmas cake provided by MASH cafe.

The evening raised £564, which was split between the Rob Vine Fund and the Joey Dunlop Foundation.

Mr Dentith gave a big thanks to the staff of the Tynwald Inn for accommodating the Quiz and providing a hot supper, to Simon Clark for providing the commentary and Frank Mitchell for compering the quiz. Thanks also went to Panicland for providing the musical entertainment for the evening.
