Road racing fans have come together to help a group of privateers attend the 2012 Isle of Man TT fuelled by Monster Energy.
A fundraising night, titled Irish TT Legends, will be among the efforts to raise cash to support Alan Connor, Brian McCormack, TT Newcomer Alan Bonner and Sidecar crew of Mick Donovan and Aaron Galligan.
A spokesman for the event organisers said:
“The costs of racing at the TT are enormous, and for the true privateer the two weeks in June on “The Island” will cost as much as a whole season for most riders.”
“The Skerries area of North Dublin has long been regarded as the home of Pure Road Racing in the South of Ireland, as it hosts the famous Skerries 100 and the Killalane Road Races organised by the local Loughshinny Motor Cycle Supporters Club.”
“With the fans in the area as passionate as you will get anywhere, a number of them have banded together to help with the costs of supporting selected Southern Irish Privateer riders at this year’s TT.”
The Irish TT Legends fundraising night will take place on Friday, May 11, in the Skerries Sailing Club, Harbour Road, Skerries.
TT legend Phillip McCallen, an 11-times winner, will be joined by double TT winners Con Law and Eddie Laycock. The format will be two chat shows, with the selected riders up first, and the TT legends up next.
More special guests will be announced, but in the meantime TT Riders Association President Mick Chatterton will make the journey from Barnsley, and he will be joined by another great Sidecar TT and World Champion passenger Kenny Arthur.
There will be music on the night by top local road racer Ciaran Donnelly and his band Equipped, and there will be an auction of top modern and period photos of the TT Legends.
Tickets are €10 each and they are available by emailing [email protected].
