Michael Dunlop put in a strong performance in the PokerStars Senior TT to secure fifth place, despite still struggling after his crash in the opening RST Superbike race.

The 11-time TT winner was left badly bruised after becoming entangled in an incident with a backmarker in the closing stages of the RST Superbike TT and this left him in considerable pain for the rest of the week.

Despite being in pain Dunlop was okayed by the medics to race and once on the bike proved to be almost back to his usual form, crossing the line to take a very respectable fifth place on the Buildbase BMW S 1000 RR, just behind Guy Martin.

The Ballymoney man also managed to set his fastest ever lap around the Isle of Man circuit on the final lap with an average speed of 132.515mph – the second fastest anybody has ever lapped the 37.73 mile mountain course.

Steve Hicken, Team Manager: “Michael has shown what a rider he is. He was really battered after his crash on Sunday but went out and showed he’s one of the fastest men around the TT course by setting the second fastest ever lap. It’s all really impressive given the last minute nature of this deal and I think it’d have been a completely different story had we not had the incident in the first race.”
