Keppel Gate to Cronkny Mona

Keppel Gate to Cronk-ny-Mona

Spectators Guide

**** L Keppel Gate. Good view of the Thirty Third and the fast approach to Keppel. TT luxury is to arrive early by car, park in a grandstand position and enjoy the racing, commentary and the atmosphere without worrying about the weather. Spectating possible on both sides of the road.
**** Kate's Cottage to Creg-ny-Baa. Park at the Creg then trek up the moorland behind the hedges on the outside of the course for different views of this magnificent downhill plunge. Do not attempt to cross after the roads are closed. P.S. There never was a Kate: it was slip of the tongue by Graham Walker (Murray's Dad) during a pre-war BBC commentary ... the occupants, the Tate family didn't seem to mind and the name lives on!
***** TFD Creg-ny-Baa. Possibly the premier spectating spot outside of Douglas. All facilities, plenty of parking, access by coach. Pay to use grandstands or ramble for a perch in the heather. Lots of road in view from Kate's to beyond Gob-ny-Geay. Good hospitality.
***** L Gob-ny-Geay. No facilities but an excellent position to spectate from on top of the highest hedges on the course. Glimpses back to Kate's and road in view from Creg-ny-Baa to Brandish. The meaning of Gob-ny-Geay is "the mouth or beak of the wind".
**** LT Brandish. A fast left hand corner before the scorch down to Hillberry. Named after Walter Brandish who broke a leg here in 1923 which ended his racing career.
***** TD Hillberry. Superb view of the final descent from the mountain and a stylish fast right hand exit. The fields are private and boggy. Best place is the small grandstand which holds around 200 people. Access via Little Mill back road from Onchan.
*** Cronk-ny-Mona. Spectating possible here from campsite entrance right up to road junction. Very thrilling part of course. Access to internal road network and via Willaston footbridge to TT Grandstand area. In the right place you can pick up first signs of approaching riders as far away as Kate's.
