Biography

Since 1995 Maria has been racing motorcycles. Ranging from RGV250s, GP250s and CB500s to Fireblades. I’m currently the third fastest girl to have lapped the Isle of Man TT course – and will become the fastest. The majority of that time she has been solely responsible for all the essentials to enable her to race. Maria has generated financial backing, securing sponsorship by keeping a high profile within the press. Organising the logistics of every round with an extremely small budget and getting her hands dirty when friends were in short supply to lend a hand. Maria says it has been the most fantastic thing she ever decided to do in her life. Her approach to motorcycle racing is always energetic; the 2001 season saw her participate in British, European and World level racing. Maria pushes her boundaries to the limit while maintaining a professionalism to match her contemporaries. Maria fulfilled her ambition to compete in the European Superstock Championship on two occasions and riding at night qualifying for the World 24 Hour Endurance race will remain an experience second only to racing the TT. She competed at three separate events on three very different motorcycles an achievement in any rider’s career. A former veterinary nurse and now a racing journalist Maria Costello reckons that racing motorcycles has been character building and life changing and she's loved every minute of it, and will continue to do so for a long time yet.
