Biography

Kenneth Clark (1926-1996) was my father. He competed only once (to my knowledge), in the 1952 Senior Clubman’s TT, finishing 33rd on his Matchless G9.

He belonged to the Hayes (Middx) and district MCC. He told me that he kept having trouble in practice with the valve clearances either closing up or widening (I can''t remember which), and went round to the Matchless tent for advice. The Matchless people didn''t say much, but gave him 4 modified rockers to fit, which cured the problem.

My Mother tells me that the winter previous to his ride, they were walking home in the snow (the buses couldn''t cope with the hill on Uxbridge Road) and he told her that when he came back from the Island he would buy a ring and they would get married.

He ran his own tool making business in Amersham, and continued mucking about with bikes until shortly before he died, mainly parading his long stroke Manx in CRMC events.

My stepmother still has the shield he was awarded.
