Very sad.
RIP Geoff
Here's a small tribute to Geoff, doing what he loved, watching the racing and being part of it.

How very sad, one of the hardest workers for the TT and motorsport in general. He was always good to offer encouragement to those who needed it.
His enthiusiasm and energy seemed limitless, I hope he is remembered in the way he deserves to be.

There was quite a campaign on these very forums to have Geoff back on Radio TT. I am sure the many words of support for Geoff made a difference in getting him back.
Geoff's commentating and interviewing was always informed, and like Peter Kneale before him, he was able to relate excitement without resorting to high pitched shreaks as some of the younger and so much less capabale commentators do these days. His forte over the past few years was the interviews with riders in the quiet surroundings of the Grandstand Press Centre after a race, and after the razzmatazz and excitement of the garlanding ceremony.
Geoff Cannell - one of the great men of the TT.

Geoff's voice was heard from around the TT Course for decades, and since 2002 he was the Press Officer for the Manx Grand Prix. When Peter Kneale died, Geoff added Peter's records to his own, and expanded what was already encyclopaedic knowledge of the course and of competitors.
His own love of trials riding was well known and just added to the breadth as well as the depth of motor cycle sport information that he carried. One of the annual demonstrations of his skill was the MGP prize presentations where his presence on stage, with all that he knew about the competitors, was a real part of the enjoyment of the evening.
Nobody is irreplaceable, but Geoff is going to be a very hard act to follow.
Our thoughts are with Lynda and Zoe who have suddenly lost so much more.
