Biography

The 1962 entry list for the 50cc race recorded the following: WD Ivy 50cc Chishom-Iton. The diminutive star had arrived! A seventh place in the 1963 50cc Race on a Sheene Special indicated Ivy’s talent and Yamaha were quick to snap him up. His battles with Phil Read certainly livened up the smaller classes at the TT during this era. He won just two races, the 1966 125cc and the 1968 Lightweight. But on finishing second in the 1968 125cc he made history, the first man to lap at over 100mph on a 125cc machine. Ivy was a much loved, mischevious character, whose jovial manner never got in the way of his serious desire to race - and win!
