Certainly the three times Duke Road racing Rankings Champion cannot be discounted when it comes to racing around the Snaefell Mountain Course.

His first rostrum place finish at the TT came in 1984 when he finished second to Dave Roper in the 500 Historic Race. Many thanks to Richard Radcliffe for that snippet of information.

In 1990 he was involved in one of the closest races ever when he set new lap and race records to win the Lightweight 250 Race from Steve Hislop. In 1996 he won the 750cc Class of the Production TT and won the Ultra-Lightweight Race with new lap and race records. He finished second in this race in 1998. He took first place on his 125 Honda in 1999 as well as finishing third in the Senior and fifth in the Formula One. TT 2000 saw Ian score two third places in both the Lightweight 250 and Junior Races on a Honda and Yamaha respectively. Ian’s fastest speed around the course is 122.93mph.
