Biography

Motorcycle legend Frantisek "Franta" Stastny passed away April 8th, 2000, at the age of 72. He passed away at the Vinohrady Hospital in Prague, after a long illness.

Stastny was a phenomenal motorcycle racer, and successful representative of Czechoslovakia and the Jawa factory. He participated in the road racing world championships in the 1950's, 1960's & 1970's, as well as the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. Stastny dominated road racing in Czechoslovakia during his career, gaining 60 victories on his home soil. But many times he experienced the crash as well, resulting in many injuries, including the loss of a kidney, and 27 broken bones. Franta was faithful to Jawa during his entire racing career, even though he received many lucrative offers from other motorcycle factories, including MV Agusta.

When he retired, Stastny worked as a TV commentator on sport programs, and a few times participated in car races, including Fiesta Cup.

Franta Stastny was a phenomenal friend, restless joker, and great storyteller. He was more than popular in the world of motorcycle road racing, and it was the greatest honour for stars like Agostini or Hailwood to become close friends to him.
