Biography

Ralph Rensen

Ralph Rensen rode in the Manx Grand Prix in 1953 and 1954, finishing only in the Junior of ''54 in 14th position.

Moving to the TT in 1955 he rode every year up to and including 1961.

He rode mainly in the Junior (350cc) and Senior (500cc) classes, but did venture into the Lightweight (250cc) and Ultra Lightweight (125cc) on occasion.

His best finish was 3rd in the 1961 Junior TT. The same year he also finished sixth in the Lightweight race, but was unfortunately killed at the 11th Milestone in the Senior TT. Ralph competed regularly at meetings in Ulster and Southern Ireland, as well as the short circuits in the UK.

He joined the ‘Continental Circus’ as the World Championship Grand Prix riders were christened, in 1960 again concentrating on the larger capacity classes the 350cc and 500cc.

In 1960 he finished in 12th position in the 350cc World Championship and achieved a similar position in the 500cc Championship.

1961 saw him finish in sixth place in the 350cc World Championship, despite his fatal accident at the TT.

He had stated at the Cookstown ‘100’ Road Races, in Northern Ireland in May 1960, that he was on the verge of retiring after that race, as his life-long friend Dave Chadwick had been killed the previous week at Mettet International Road Races in Belgium.
