Biography

Martin was born in Cowley, Oxford on 27th November 1939. He followed his older brother into motorcycling and, after an apprenticeship on small machines [a Triumph Terrier 150, which was tuned to go somewhat faster than Meriden intended, comes to mind], he graduated to a B32 Gold Star which he rode in many events. In 1965 he rode his Greeves Silverstone 250 in the Lightweight Manx Grand Prix to 44th place. In 1967 Martin emigrated to Australia, initially to Sydney and later to Perth where he set up a successful business retailing and fitting home heating. In Western Australia he was a keen competitor in the 125cc class until the class was abolished some time in the late 70’s, early 80’s. Martin so loved the Isle of Man racing scene that he named his sons after place names on the island, Ramsey and Braddan. He died of a heart attack on October 30th 1993 while working on his land at Walpole, Western Australia. He was aged 53. Martin left a wife Wendy and two sons.
