Having commenced in 1989, I have now completed a memorial book dedicated to all competitors who lost their lives whilst racing or practising for the TT or MGP. A sample of this work can be seen on www.tt-memorial.com. I would welcome any comments, good or bad. My intention is to print a limited number and present two copies to the Manx Museum etc. Should I be persuaded to find a publisher for the book then it would only go ahead on agreement that all profits go to Injured Riders or other such organisation.

Wish you well on your publication and I would certianly buy it.
Well overdue in my opinion.

I'd like to point out to the above poster that the book was not meant to be ghoulish but to simply remember people who would otherwise be forgotten. The book will feature everyone who lost their lives in the TT & MGP and the writer seeks to make no personal gain.

I'm confused now - whose book? sigurd's or sticky's ? Or multi nics? Call it what you like. However, I'd buy it regardless of your motives. It's a great idea for a book.

As you know, I really hope that this book will be printed. The history of the 222 TT and MGP riders who lost their lives on the TT course deserves to be written. No one can do it other than you. And the centenaty is the right time to do it.

Great idea to coincide with 2007.
Agree with Gary's comments.....brief history of rider, where they were from, etc etc etc. Space may be at a premium but I think some personal info is a must.
Like the chance to buy one, hope it hits the shelves, good luck.

There are accounts of every single competitor since Victor John Surridge in 1911 up to the present date. At the rear of the book there will be dedications to Peter Jarmann and Jack Trustham both of whom lost their lives during a Parade Lap. Also to Constable Dennis Hamer who died after being hit by a racing machine at Union Mills in 1975. Regarding background information on each competitor I have tried to include as much as possible such as their age, where they lived and a potted history on their racing career. There are some riders who had very short careers on the Isle of Man, losing their lives on the very first lap of practice and it has been difficult to find photographs of these men and women. I would welcome any assistance from friends or relatives who could help in that respect.

This would be a fantastic memorial. I for one would have no hesitation buying one and congratulations on your research. I have to say I have also kept a list of names of those who have lost their lives on the TT course and at times have wondered if other people might think this was a bit morbid. However, I sometimes think it is important just to get it out and look at it at try to remember something about these guys (and girl ). It saddens me that it's getting so long but we should never forget them. I have also seen Lost Lives which Silkcut has mentioned and know a couple of the folk in it but feel that it really puts the whole thing into context in a sensitive way. Your book is a must.
A couple of years ago I also made enquiries to the TT authorities re some of the memorials around the course. I had an idea of trying to get photos of the memorials around the course tho this would basically have been for myself as I wasn't sure if there were other like-minded people out there- tho I now see there is. Some of these are really moving and very beautiful like the Thomas and Mats Erikson memorial at Alpine Cottage or Simon Beck's which is at Westwood. Living in Belfast would make this venture difficult. I made enquiries to some official TT folk but you can guess I didn't have much help tho I do know of quite a few of these. Including pics of the memorials in the book would also be nice. When riders' families put up memorials to their loved ones they want us never to forget the riders so we shouldn't.
Good luck finding a publisher. Perhaps Amulree press who do a lot of TT stuff ??

As a local, I would have no problem taking photos for the book and providing any map references, descriptions etc if required.
The Manx newspapers over the years pretty well document most happenings
at the TT/MGP and these are available through museum archive and other
sources, although the search can be a bit arduous.
