John McGuinness is vowing to fight back after disappointment during the build-up to the Centenary TT.
After sixth place in the first round of the British Supersport Championship, the Morecambe rider had been hoping to continue that success ahead of the Isle of Man TT.
However, during round two of the championship, held at Thruxton, an electrical fault brought his race to a premature end.
Despite the setback, the 11-times TT winner, says he will be back on track for the third round.
‘We were hoping to build on our good start to the season, but it wasn't
to be so we'll have to get stuck in at the next round and get back into the
right end of the results sheets.’
McGuinness - who was joined by other TT stars at Thruxton including Guy Martin - had qualified the Padgett’s Honda in 11th place for the British Supersport Championship second round, but half way around the first lap his race was over.
He made a great start, getting inside the top ten as the riders swept through the Complex, but almost immediately afterwards, he raised his hand and his race was over – forced to retire with an electrical problem.
An obviously disappointed John said:
‘To say I'm gutted would be an understatement. Conditions throughout the weekend have been problematical as we've all been struggling for grip, but I was happy with the bike and with the tyre choice I'd made so felt confident I could get in to the top eight at least.
‘I needed to make a good start from the third row and that's exactly what I did but as soon as we headed onto the back part of the circuit, the bike slowed and I knew my race was over.
‘We're not sure at this stage what the exact cause was but it looks very much like an electrical problem and it's a big disappointment for both me and the team.’
