Martin thanks Hydrex team

Club president Derek Nicholson, Guy Martin and club secretary George Peach (John Watterson)

TT hero Guy Martin has paid tribute to his Hydrex Honda team after another successful Southern 100 campaign.

Just weeks after securing three podium finishes at the Centenary TT, the Kirmington rider was back in the Isle of Man to take on the 4.25-mile Billown Circuit.

He scored three wins and one second place from four outings, with only veteran Ian Lougher denying him the clean sweep.

Martin took the shortened Senior Solo Founders race, the Total Oils Senior – seeing off challenges from Lougher and another Centenary TT star Conor Cummins – and the Supersport 600. However, in the feature Championship race Martin was unable to overhaul fellow Honda rider Lougher.

The 25-year-old said:

‘All of the races were hard fought affairs and Ian, Conor and Chris Palmer were pushing me hard all the way but I got my head down and managed to open up a gap each time to take the wins.’
‘The only one that escaped me was the main Championship race on Thursday and that’s the third year in a row Ian’s got the better of me so I’ll be looking to correct that next year!’
‘The wet conditions meant we were all struggling for grip so fair play to him, he rode a great race, and second was still a good result. The Hydrex team did a great job all week and to come away with three wins and a second is superb so thanks to everyone for making it happen’
