The fastest woman around the Isle of Man TT course is lending her support to charity.
Maria Costello, the first woman to stand on the podium at either the TT or Manx Grand Prix, has donated a Bering motorcycle jacket to help raise funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
She has also donated a signed picture and a signed T-shirt.
The jacket will be one of the lots in an auction to be held during the Isle of Woman Festival, which runs from October 26 to 28. During the weekend the Isle of Man changes its name for the weekend and hosts a number of fundraising events to help mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The pink Bering jacket will be auctioned during the Pink Tie Ball, being held at the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club, Santon, on Saturday, October 27.
Maria jumped at the chance to help a worthwhile charity, as well as doing something for the Isle of Man.
She said:
‘It’s my favourite racetrack, but away from that it’s a very beautiful and peaceful Island. I love the place!’
Isle of Man Government Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw said he was delighted to have Maria’s support.
‘To have the fastest woman racer supporting this cause is fantastic.’
‘The Isle of Woman is such a brilliant event. Last year the festival raised £40,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, plus another single donation of £500,000 was received after the festival.’
‘With help from people like Maria, we hope to continue the success this year.’
