Subscribers to the TT Live! service experienced problems during Monday night’s timed practice session at the 2008 Isle of Man TT.

Users were unable to listen to Manx Radio TT’s commentary for much of the session, did not have access to information from the Unisys Sped Trap in Sulby and many subscribers could not fully utilise the dashboard, webcams and other features of TT Live!

The Manx Radio TT feed was lost at about 3pm on Monday due to a sound hardware failure. An intermediate fix was implemented which restored the radio feed at about 7.30pm.

The intermediate fix involved making use of the Manx Radio AM feed which is available in the Isle of Man. That meant a temporary degradation in the quality of the commentary sound.

The sound hardware has now been rebuilt backup equipment installed, restoring the radio feed quality and implementing a back up system to try and prevent a repeat of the problems experienced on Monday.

The speed trap data was unavailable throughout the session. This was due to a failure of the connection that relays the data from the Sulby speed trap to TT Live! for processing.

Those responsible for the speed trap and connection are aware of the problem and have been working to rectify the situation. TT Live! is hopeful the speed trap data will be available to subscribers for the Tuesday evening practice session.

At various points during Monday’s practice session some subscribers experienced problems with the dashboard, which provides sector and lap times, webcams and other features of TT Live!

This was due to a configuration issue. The impact of the configuration issue would have been minimised by contingency measures put in place, but, unfortunately, due to problems with the format of the data being sent to TT Live! this contingency system failed.

TT Live! believes this situation has now been remedied and extensive tests are being run. This may mean some subscribers will see data from last night’s session appearing in the dashboard ahead of Tuesday’s scheduled practice session.

TT Live! is confident this problem will not occur again during the 2008 TT.

Some subscribers have raised concerns about the quality of the feed from one of the webcams. TT Live! has taken these comments on board and a faulty camera is being replaced. It is expected this work will be complete before the first race on Saturday May 31.

TT Live! is also aware Sidecar times were not available on Monday evening. The reason for this is currently under investigation.
