Sure support for charity
The Joey Dunlop Foundation has received a donation from Sure Mobile, the official telecommunications partner of the Isle of Man TT.
The donation was made to the charity in return for use of an iconic image of 26-time TT winner Joey on Sure’s limited-edition commemorative SIM packs, which have been produced especially for the 2008 event.
The presentation took place during the opening of Sure’s retail unit at the TT Grandstand in Douglas Saturday. The company’s Marketing Manager Julie Heselton handed the donation over to foundation chairman Kevin Quirk and long-time supporter of the charity John McGuinness, the 13-times TT winner and outright lap record holder.
Clive Padgett, manager of Padgett’s Honda team McGuinness is riding for at this year’s TT, has supplied a Honda CBR600RR motorcycle to the charity. The bike, a replica of the Padgett’s Manx Gas Supersport 600 bike McGuinness is racing in ’08, will be given away in January and raffle tickets will on sale throughout the year.

The Joey Dunlop Foundation aims to build a holiday home for disabled people in Victoria Road, Douglas. The charity has already purchased the plot of land, and is now working to raise enough money to cover the rising building costs.
Mr Quirk said he is grateful for support from Sure.
He added:
‘Despite many setbacks, the JDF committee members are determined to achieve their objective and provide specialist holiday accommodation for anyone with special needs.’
‘Considerable progress has been achieved in the last 12 months, but we are only a small committee and we need the support of companies like Sure, as well as road-racing fans, to support the Joey Dunlop Foundation.’
‘This will ensure that a lasting memorial is constructed in memory of Joey.’
Sure’s Marketing Manager Julie Heselton said the company is delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile charity.
She added:
‘Being able to associate our brand with such a TT legend is a real honour.’
‘The Joey Dunlop Foundation is a fantastic initiative that will play a really valuable role in the community once the building on Victoria Road in Douglas is complete.’
‘Joey Dunlop is perhaps the most iconic racer ever to take on the Isle of Man’s Mountain Circuit, and it’s fitting that his legacy should live on here in this way.’
The limited edition Sure SIM packs cost £20 and include £20 of credit and 100MB of free data usage on Sure’s high speed mobile internet portal, Sure Live!
They are available from the Sure store on Strand Street in Douglas, the Sure retail unit at the Grandstand, Sure Mobile’s website or the iomtt.com shop.
