A popular and successful competitor on the Isle of Man TT circuit has passed away after a crash on Monday.

John Goodall died in Noble’s Hospital on Tuesday from injuries suffered during the Classic Senior Race at the Manx Grand Prix.

The 67-year-old lost control of his Matchless G50 at Ballacraine. He was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Mr Goodall, of Haverfordwest, was a seasoned campaigner on the famous Mountain Circuit. He competed in the Production TT races of 1975 and 1976 and was also a regular at the MGP from 1972 to 1979.

He returned to MGP in 1983 to compete in the inaugural Classic Senior Race, which he won. During his MGP career, Mr Goodall claimed 40 replicas.

Just days before his death, Mr Goodall had been presented with this year’s Spirit of the Manx award, in recognition of the fact he had competed in every classic race at the MGP since he won the inaugural Senior Classic.

A spokesman for MGP organisers the Manx Motor Cycle Club said:

‘The Manx Motor Cycle Cycle Club wishes to express its sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Mr Goodall.’
