A potential clash between the Isle of Man TT and the British round of the 2010 MotoGP World Championship will be discussed between the Isle of Man Government and Dorna.

The Island’s Department of Tourism and Leisure has confirmed it will contact MotoGP’s rights holder to discuss the date of next year’s British Grand Prix, which is to be held at Silverstone.

The provisional timetable for the 2010 championship has the British round on Sunday, June 6, meaning a potential clash with the Superbike TT race, scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 5.

Although the date clash doesn’t affect likely participating teams and riders, the request is being made following comments from fans and leading figures from the motorcycling industry who may be forced to choose between two of the most prestigious dates on the motorcycling calendar.

Tourism and Leisure Minister Martyn Quayle said:

‘This is only a provisional timetable, but we don’t want fans to be forced to choose between two hugely popular events.’
‘We will work with Dorna to try to resolve this in everyone’s best interests.’

The 2010 Isle of Man TT Practice Week begins on Saturday, May 29, with racing schedule to run from Saturday, June 5 to Saturday, June 12.
