Isle of Man residents are being urged to join the Homestay scheme to ensure accommodation demand can be met during the 2010 TT.

The Department of Tourism and Leisure is calling on residents to lend their support following a notable increase in visits to the department’s website and high levels of interest in the Homestay scheme from fans planning a visit.

To register your property for Homestay, all you have to do is contact the Department of Tourism and Leisure. The registration fee is £8, and Homestay can be offered for any number of nights between May 29 and June 12.

Providing accommodation in your home during the 2010 TT as part of the Homestay scheme is exempt from Tax, provided the gross income received, before expenses, does not exceed £1,500.

Tourism and Leisure Minister Martyn Quayle said:

‘This is a great opportunity for us to encourage the many visitors who wish to visit our beautiful Island for the TT and enjoy the unique and exciting atmosphere of this ever popular festival.’
‘Following the success of 2009, when the Island enjoyed a 4.3% increase in visitor numbers, the continuing interest in the Island as a holiday destination is most welcome.’
‘The provision of quality Homestay accommodation would ensure that we are in the best position to meet the requirements of our visitors and the department would welcome new applications.’

Any Homestay providers who have already filled their places for the fortnight are also asked to inform the department in order to prevent repeat enquiries being made.
