Fans get close to the action at the 2010 TT

Exciting plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Isle of Man’s world famous Mountain course at this year’s TT have seen the number of fans booking to attend soar.

The TT’s Official Travel Partner, Regency Travel, has revealed confirmed bookings for 2011 are around 3,000 – compared with just 1,000 at this time last year.

In addition, accommodation providers have reported they are fully booked for the 2011 TT – and for the TT in 2012.

The 2011 TT, which runs from May 30 to June 10, will feature the usual fast and furious racing form stars like John McGuinness, Guy Martin, Klaus Klaffenboch, Michael Dunlop and Ian Hutchinson in the Superbike, Superstock, Supersport and Sidecar classes. In addition, the development of electric bike racing will continue with another TT Zero race, plus there are several celebrations planned to mark the Centenary of the Mountain course, including a special parade lap and more.

Demand for accommodation is so high, the Isle of Man Government is appealing for residents to open their homes to guests under the Homestay scheme.

Any household meeting the necessary requirements can register for the Homestay scheme following an inspection from a registration officer. Residents should note that it is an offence under the Tourist Act 1975 not to register their home whilst accommodating paying guests.

Economic Development Minister Allan Bell said:

“The Homestay scheme is a unique, affordable and exciting option and is a perfect way for visitors to get to know the local community and form friendly exchanges. It is a fantastic opportunity and also has the benefit of learning about the Manx way of life from knowledgeable local residents.”

“I would like to thank all those who have already registered to open up their homes to our visitors for the TT ‘Centenary of the Mountain Course’ Festival. I am delighted that forward bookings for the Festival are already up on last year, but we do, however, still need more accommodation for the many visitors to the Island during this particularly busy time of the year.”

Anyone wishing to register for the scheme is urged to do so early as a cut off date is due to be announced.
