Isle of Man TT star Ryan Farquhar has revealed a British Superbike Championship rider could join his team for this year’s TT.
The Dungannon man said he is close to a deal which would see his KMR Kawasaki outfit expand to two riders for the 2011 International road races, including the TT.
He would not be drawn on who the rider is, but confirmed they currently race in the BSB series.
Farquhar’s KMR team has proved very successful, netting him multiple road wins and titles. Last season he added yet more wins to his CV and claimed two hard-fought podium finishes at the TT, including a fine second place in the Dainese Senior.
His preparations for this year are progressing and, despite a limited budget compared with many of the bigger teams, he is confident of finally landing the elusive big bike win on the Mountain course.
Farquhar is also confident that KMR Kawasaki is ready for another rider as it enters its third year.
He said:
“So far, everything is going really well.”
“I’m 99 per cent certain I’m going to run another road racer, yes I’m pretty confident I’m going to run another rider. They are a BSB rider.”
“We haven’t got the backing the BSB teams and riders have got, so it’s going to be a struggle this year, but hopefully we can come away from the TT with a win.”
Farquhar was speaking at the Adelaide Racer Awards in Belfast recently, where he picked up yet another haul of awards.
As well as being named Irish Road Racer of the year, ahead of Michael and William Dunlop, Farquhar picked up the prestigious Geoff Duke Trophy for a record-breaking fifth time, and the third time in a row, after topping the Duke Road Rankings yet again.
His domination of the motorcycling scene was clear as Farquhar was nominated for International Road Racer of the Year and Irish Motorcyclist of the Year. His team was nominated for the Team of the Year award, which it won in 2010.
