After being inundated with requests to join the Parade Lap at the 2011 Isle of Man TT fuelled by Monster Energy, the Island’s Department of Economic Development has confirmed participation in the Milestones of the Mountain parade is by invitation only.
The parade, which will take place on Senior Race Day, will commemorate some of the most iconic races, machines and riders that have competed on the Mouintain course since it was first used in 1911.
It will be a tribute to the original events, competitors and bikes that made TT history.
Already confirmed to ride are multiple TT Sidecar race winner Dave Molyneux, 15-time TT winner John McGuinness, record-breaker Ian Hutchinson, who won all five solo races at the 2010 TT, and Italian Grand Prix legend Giacomo Agostini.
The parade will remember and celebrate great names from the TT, including Joey Dunlop, Steve Hislop, David Jefferies and Geoff Duke.
The first Mountain course TT and the 1992 battle for the Senior between Hizzy and Carl Fogarty, widely recognised as the greatest TT race of all time, will also be commemorated.
Isle of Man Tourism Political Member Geoff Corkish said:
“The department is being inundated with people wanting to take part in the parade. We are very pleased with the interest, but this year participation in the parade has to be by invitation only as we are focusing on some of the most significant moments, riders and machines in the TT Mountain Course’s 100 year history.”
He added:
“Whilst we haven’t confirmed our plans for 2012 yet, we are hoping to return to the original parade lap format.”
