Leading Irish road racer John Burrows plans to ride Moira MRC’s Honda Supersport machine at the 2012 Isle of Man TT fuelled by Monster Energy.
There are high hopes of success for Burrows on the ex-Keith Amor 600cc motorcycle.
The Moira MRC, which recently celebrated 30 years of support to motorcycle racing, has supported riders like Woolsley Coulter, Gary Dynes, Dave Leach, Andrew Neil, Gary Jess and more.
Earlier this year, the club took David Lumsden on, but the deal failed to materialis, and the club was on the outlook for another rider.
Moira MRC chairman Colly Walker said:
“Following our rather short-lived association with David Lumsden, the club began looking around for another rider to ride the bike, and we had quite a few guys interested in riding for us.”
“It wasn’t an easy decision for the club, however, John’s professional approach to the sport, and his popularity amongst the public, coupled with the fact he is a excellent rider, certainly made him a favourite choice for the club.”
“I got to know John through Andrew Neill at the races. I always admired John’s professionalism and the effort he put into his machinery, they always turned out immaculate.”
“I am really pleased we have John riding our bike this year and we, as a club, look forward to working with him.”
Burrows added:
“I am chuffed to have been asked to ride for the Moira MRC.”
“Before I started racing, I always admired the Moira MRC team; top class riders on good machinery, backed by an enthusiastic club. I have met up with the club, and together I hope I can repay the faith they have shown in me, and I am certainly looking forward to riding the Honda.”
“I am also honoured to be riding for the club, as I was great friends with Andrew Neil, who is held in high esteem by the club.”
His first competitive outing on the Moira MRC Honda will be at the Cookstown 100, however Burrows hopes to have a run out at a track day prior that. The bike, resplendent in the Moira MRC colours, will incorporate some personal sponsors including “Cookstown”.
Burrows has recently been at the Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, California, to test the latest electric bike built by Richard Hatfield. At last year’s TT, on a bike that was just built in time for practice, the Lightning Motorcycles Team experienced teething problems. Having taken on board the problems they had, a new bike has been built especially for this year’s TT.
